This week and next the UN Climate Change Conference is assembled in Glasgow, Scotland. Representatives from about 200 countries will discuss and encourage each other to take action to reduce carbon emissions to net-zero by 2050 in order to prevent further climate warming.
Science predicts that if significant reductions in carbon emissions are not achieved then life as we know it will end.
As I look out my window I see in the clear bright sunny afternoon that the distant mountains have put on their white parkas. A patchy covering of snow is scattered across the lawn. In the towering fir tree I see a beautiful Blue Jay examining a branch. A golden Flicker is investigating the bird- feeder. On the trunk of the Schubert tree whose wine coloured leaves have danced away on the wind I see two black Squirrels with magnificent tails playing chase. If emissions are not reduced life as I know it will get warmer, yet last my life-time; but likely not the life-time of my children, grand-children, great grand-children.
Let us examine our daily life praying to God for guidance and strength to change the things we can, and wisdom in supporting our Nation in pursing its COP26 climate change goals.
