During our COVID Sabbatical I have been thinking about what is precious in life. A precious treasure that God gives to each person is Time. Time can be used wisely or squandered foolishly. How ever we choose to live each moment of time, it is then gone forever. We are left with feelings of regret or of joy; the result of our choice of how we will use this precious treasure which God gives freely to each of us.
There is a second treasure that God gives to each person, the treasure of Silence. But, for many people, this treasure has been stolen from them. The world in which we live has become polluted with noise to point that it is almost impossible to get away from the noise created by modern day society. Sitting on a bench surrounded by trees I am aware of the traffic sounds from a highway 5 kilometres away. Today’s world challenges us to find a place where we can bask in the sound of silence.
The sound of sheer silence is a treasure which God gives to each of us in order that we may become aware of the voice of the One who created us and loves us.
