One of the questions which has arisen during the pandemic has been to search for a reason why this has happened to us. There may indeed be a valid reason why the world has suffered the ravages of COVID19 but it may be some years before the reason is revealed. In the meantime we may find some consolation in knowing that our desire to find the reason is part of being human.
One of the stories in Luke’s Gospel says that the disciples of Jesus asked him why a blind beggar had been born blind. Was it due to a sin he had committed or that his parents had committed? Jesus responded by pointing out that there was a third possibility. He was born blind so the power of God could be seen in him. Then Jesus put mud on the man’s eyes and sent him to wash in the pool of Siloam. The man obeyed and returned seeing! Everyone was amazed.
So, what has happened during the pandemic that has opened our eyes to see how we could respond to the needs of those around us? How has the pandemic revealed the presence and power of God in our daily life? What stereotypes will we be banishing from our way of thinking?
