Do you remember the special gift we received Sunday last? In our part of the city it was tiny bits of hail followed by rain! The bits of hail quickly disappeared as the moisture sank into the earth. The moisture was eagerly absorbed by the roots of the small yellow flowers that were appearing in the lawn. Spring! By the way, on 5 May 2020 I also wrote about the gift of tiny bits of hail which we had recently received. Spring has come again, alleluia!
However, we may be tempted to focus our attention on Nature’s seasonal progression and forget the One who has brought Nature into being and fixed its limits. To forget can be dangerous to our well-being. When we forget that our existence and the existence of Nature are due to the love of the Creator, we may be tempted to abuse the gifts which we are given. The words of the Psalmist can help us approach life with the right perspective.
I look up to the mountains—does my help come from there?
My help comes from the Lord, who made the heavens and the earth! (NLT)
