I have been reading the second Book of Kings. The author is an excellent example of summarizing a leader’s life in an interesting and concise manner. One of the descriptions which caught my imagination was the reference to the kings of Judah and of Israel speeding about in horse drawn chariots. Like neighbouring rulers they knew the importance of having in their possession these machines which spoke of power and domination.
Next Sunday we will be focussing on a specific king of the House of David and his triumphal entry into Jerusalem. There is a dramatic difference though in how he arrived in the holy city. Instead of a golden chariot pulled by a pair of fine stallions he arrived, to the resounding cheers of the crowds lining the roadway, riding on a donkey’s colt. His actions proclaimed quite a different message for those who had eyes to see and ears to hear.
How would you, how would I, like the one whom we would call king in our life, to arrive?
