Day 26 of our Lenten Journey. It is also the time of year when we start thinking about getting Outdoors. Maybe we are looking forward to visiting the park while observing social distancing and mask wearing as we enjoy the warm sun. Maybe we think about making plans to have a vacation later in the year, away from our too familiar daily surroundings. Maybe our thoughts turn to gathering the papers we will need in order to complete our Annual Income Tax forms!
Preparing our Tax Return can be a revealing experience. Not only will we discover just how much our annual income was; but, we may also collect information which tells us what our annual expenses were. Our annual expenses can be viewed as a sign of how much we contributed to society. Our monthly expenses such as rent, utilities, insurance, food, charitable donations, property taxes, interest payments, etc. represent dollars flowing into someone’s pocket for goods and services which they have provided to us. We are contributors to the society around us, to our neighbours, who depend on us to participate with them in giving and receiving.
Paying our taxes is one way in which we give and receive to the benefit of all.
