A storm is coming this way says the weatherman today, but the morning sun will shine; so, I wonder what that means for the Ground Hog. If it sees its shadow on emerging from its burrow that means there will be six more weeks of winter weather; but, if there is no shadow the prediction is an early spring! So when we have the chances of bright sunlight and no sunlight on the same day it is no wonder that the predictions of the groundhog in North America have about a 39 % accuracy rate. Happy February 2, Ground Hog Day!
More importantly on February 2 we celebrate the Presentation of the Lord. Yes, 40 days ago we were celebrating Christmas. Now the time has come for Mary and Joseph to make the trek to the Temple in Jerusalem to fulfill the law regarding the birth of a child. While they were in the Temple they met two holy people, Anna and Simeon. Both spoke prophetically about the infant Jesus that Mary was carrying in her arms. “He is a light to reveal God to the nations, and he is the glory of your people Israel!” Luke 2:32
Regardless of whether we have an early spring, or more winter storms, let us rejoice that Jesus, the Light of the World, is with us.
