What do you have near your front door? Outside I have a broom for sweeping the snow off the steps so that callers do not slip, and inside I have a mask to put on before I respond to the door bell’s announcement. These objects help me to express my love for my neighbour in practical ways.
There are many more practical ways on the Alberta Health website which you and I are encouraged to practice such as: hand washing, not holding gatherings in our home, not attending gatherings outdoors, wearing a mask when we are out of our home and especially when shopping for essentials, and the list goes on.
Why do we follow these guidelines? To protect ourselves and to protect our neighbour. To protect our hospital workers from being overwhelmed by COVID19 cases and to protect their loved ones with whom they live. To stop the spread of COVID19 and ensure that our children and grand-children will have a future to look forward to.
Yes, as we act responsibly in order to be a part of the solution rather than a contributor to the problem, we join the growing ranks of those people who choose to love their neighbour in practical ways. Thanks be to God.
