What will you be giving thanks for on this Thanksgiving Day holiday? Family, friends, good neighbours, health, work, government support, birds, fish, hopping rabbits, insects, butterflies, buzzing bees, trees, grass, colourful flowers—the list is endless!
St. Paul reminds us to give thanks: for God’s love for each of us as revealed through Jesus Christ, for God’s renewing strength in difficult times through the power of the Holy Spirit, for God’s trust in us to share the Good News with all people through our words and deeds as we care for the sick, the oppressed, and the neglected in society.
We also give thanks for the hope that we have received that God’s only Son, Jesus, whom God raised from the dead on the third day, will return from heaven to rescue us on judgement day.
Indeed, in order to be truly thankful we need a “holy day” on which to pause and recognize all the blessings that have been poured out upon us. On this coming Thanksgiving holiday let us give thanks and praise to God Almighty, Alleluia!
