In one of my sermons prior to the pandemic when we were still able to physically gather for Sunday Worship, I drew attention to the leather cord which holds my pectoral cross around my neck. There are two reef knots in the cord which are equidistant from the cross as it lies on my chest. The knots and the cross form a triad which St. Paul speaks of in 1 Corinthians. “There are three things that will endure... Faith, Hope, and Love...and the greatest of these is Love.”
Now which of these three, the two reef knots in my leather cord and the cross hanging from the cord, do you think reminds me of love? Here is a hint...Charlie Brown of the cartoon Peanuts is asked, “What is love, Chuck?”, and he replies, “A man named Jesus.” The Love of God Almighty for each one of us, regardless of who we are, where we come from, or the colour of our skin, is revealed in Jesus the Christ. Thanks be to God.
