How will you be celebrating Canada Day this year? If you are going out of your home, please remember to practice social distancing and wear a mask when you cannot be two metres apart. It is also an opportunity to pray for our Country. Here is a prayer which is based on Occasional Prayers #10, page 678, in our Anglican Church Book of Alternative Services.
Almighty God, we give you thanks this July 1st Canada Day for the good land in which we live; we pray that you will bless this land with honest industry, truthful education, and an honourable way of life. Save us from violence, discord, and confusion; from pride and arrogance; and from every evil course of action. Make us —people who have inhabited this land for thousands of years, and people who have come more recently from many different nations with many different languages— a united people. Defend our liberties and give those whom we have entrusted with the authority of government the spirit of wisdom, that there may be justice and peace for all, from Sea to Sea to Sea. When times are prosperous, let our hearts be thankful; and, in troubled times, do not let our trust in you fail. We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord.
