“I will take you to myself, that where I am, you may be also.” [John 14:3b] My friends, another sad announcement. Sandra Dame and her family were holding vigil for her mother, Emma Wilkinson, throughout the weekend. On Tuesday, Emma departed this life in peace at last. She was, I believe, 98 years old. Emma and her husband Arve had been married since she was 18 years old, and so our hearts go out to Arve especially at this time. They were blessed with an incredibly vibrant family life: Emma lived long enough to see her great-great-grandchildren. There were four generations gathered around her on Tuesday when they said goodbye. Emma was an incredibly loving woman, and so there were many tears; but her faith in Jesus is also a source of joy and hope for her future. For their family, as with Rosemary’s family, there is no doubt that she has gone into the loving arms of God, and that they will all, in time, join her in the kingdom of Heaven.
And so we rejoice with Emma that she rests now in paradise; and we mourn with Sandra and the Wilkinson family who have lost their great Matriarch: a woman who loved people with a huge heart, and held all those generations together in loving faith.
The memorial for Emma Wilkinson will be held at McInnis and Holloway - the Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre St N) on Saturday, October 6 at 2:00 pm. All are welcome.
